Elder Cook Week Fifty-Two

Hey Familia,

T GOT BAPTIZED!!! That kid stressed me out that night.  We went to his house about an hour early to get him and he wasn’t there! We talked to his buddies and he said he went back out to sell some more eggs. We waited another half hour then went to the church, telling all his neighbors to send him to the chapel if they saw him. We went and set up starting the pila and put out the chairs, and he still wasn’t there! About 20 minutes after when the service was supposed to start the members started coming up to us to ask if he’d come or not. We were worried and kept trying to call him! We sent kids out to go find him too. When we were about to give up hope, he showed up in his truck with the bed half full of eggs asking why we were worried.

So we got him in the baptism suit and get him in the room. It all went great until the pila drained itself. T got baptized 3 times before L could get him under far enough, even after we filled that thing like three times! But man, when he was finally baptized and sitting in the room again, he was different. It’s not something you can really put to words but I’ve seen it in every baptism I’ve been to. When they come out of the water they really have been born again. They have a smile and a spirit about them that’s contagious. My testimony grows every time I see someone like that and it just makes me want to help more feel the spirit and God’s love after taking that step in their lives.

We also had the craziest greatest thing happen on Saturday. Friday night we had like 5 missed calls from Bishop when we got home. He told us he had just talked to a woman that wants to be baptized TOMORROW.  She had all the lessons from the missionaries, she’d been to the church a ton, and really wanted to follow Christ in her life since her dad died the other day and it kind of shook her.  He said she wanted to meet with us at the church at 7:30am the next morning. We were more than a little skeptical, but pumped. We went down, played ball, changed, and then went to meet her. She was everything the bishop said! Her two daughters are members and she wanted to get baptized as soon as possible. We set the date for next Saturday and now we’ll be passing by every day to teach her! It was amazing her name’s L. Like it says in Alma 13:24, angels are preparing the hearts of men. God is always helping people come to the gospel. He wants His children to return to Him. But it’s our job to be there ready to help them. Open your mouth! People need this gospel. Always remember that the worst someone can say is no, and you will be blessed a ton for your effort.

There you go. Other than that, we just saw and did the usual. Saw a dog get hit by a truck and die, which was sad, played some street soccer with some kids and they kicked our butts, and got a ton of doors slammed on us.

Love you

Elder Cook

The scripture Elder Cook referenced in his letter:

Alma 13:24   For behold, angles are declaring it unto many at this time in our land; and this is for the purpose of preparing the hearts of the children of men to receive his word at the time of his coming in his glory.
